Counteracting Deforestation!
90 percent of the population in the Gambia use, in the absence of alternatives, firewood and charcoal as the main energy source. The deforestation has far-reaching consequences: Increase of the prices for firewood, soil erosion, threat to biodiversity and increase of the climate change. We are setting an example by distributing tree seedlings to all the participants of the women program since February 2017. When visiting former participants, the Tiloo Gambia team could assure that these seedlings are well taken care of. By increasing the awareness for environmental protection and for the significance of trees, we counteract the deforestation in the Gambia!
